I created this stylized map of a disc golf course for a cake design, a gift for the 50th birthday of the course designer, who is also a big Tolkien fan. I did not create the cake itself, but I can verify that it was delicious.
Designing for an edible printer brought on a whole new set of challenges—note the color differences on the actual cake, a potential problem that I managed to account for in spite of not being able to do a test run.
Every bit of this map was created from scratch in Photoshop—the parchment colors and textures, borders, and graphics. Modified custom brushes created the map icons like the trees and buildings.
